Everything you need to know about registering a trademark across the GCC.
On average, the full process takes around 6 to 12 months from filing to certificate, including the examination and 30-day Gazette publication period. We lock in your priority date as soon as we file.
Typically a copy of your trade licence (for companies) or passport (for individuals), a clear copy of the logo/mark, and a signed power of attorney. We prepare and check everything for you.
TM (Trademark) — used for unregistered marks; signals you claim ownership of a name or logo. SM (Service Mark) — same as TM but specifically for services rather than physical goods. R (Registered) — only used after official registration; gives full legal protection under law. C (Copyright) — protects original creative works such as books, art, software and music.
You can legally use the ® symbol only after your trademark is officially registered and you've received your certificate. Using ® before registration can be considered misleading. Until then, use the ™ (or SM for services) symbol to show that you claim ownership of the mark while your application is being processed.
When there is a ™ on the brand name or logo, it indicates that the trademark application has been filed and the registration is under process. An applicant can use the ™ beside their brand name or logo once the application is filed, and can keep using it until registration is done. After completion of registration, the ™ gets replaced by ®, which means the trademark registration is completed and is valid for 10 years (renewable thereafter).
